Thornbury and District Stroke Support Group Holiday 2011

REPORT FOR MINEHEAD HOLIDAY MARCH 2011

A group of 20 members travelled to Minehead for a short Spring break to the Promenade Hotel this March .

The group was made up of 10 Stroke members with 2 of their wives and 8 volunteers. It was well balanced with 10 men and 10 women.

We left Thornbury on the Thursday with warm sunny weather and were welcomed by the hotel staff on arrival. After our evening meal we had a quiz and bingo .

On the Friday the coach took us to the northern edge of Exmoor to the Heddon valley near Lynton where we stopped for lunch and a walk around the gardens of The Hunters Inn where we had an excellent lunch. The proprieters had laid a large table for the 20 of us where we ate overlooking the garden with a large picture window. It was an excellent venue.

We then travelled to The Valley of the Rocks where volunteers pushed some of our guests in wheel chairs to look at the excellent views of the Bristol Channel made all the nicer by the sunny weather. Our journey back took us over the moors ready for our evening meal. After the meal we entertained ourselves once again with picture quizes and bingo.

Saturday was another sunny warm day and a group of us took the 12o’clock train on the West Somerset Railway to Bishops Lydeard .

After our evening meal we played “Play your Cards” and then another session of bingo.

Sunday dawned another beautiful day and many of us strolled along to the harbour and the local gardens. After dinner that evening we were entertained by a vocalist /keyboard player and that gave some of us an opportunity to get on the floor and dance to the sounds of the 50’s and 60’s

On Monday the final shopping in the town was done by several of us and then after lunch we returned home after a pleasant and active few days enjoyed by all.
